The best Grogg in Paris ? At the Ritz Vendome Bar !

Posted in hotels and restaurants, luxury, Paris on March 3, 2011 by ParisDeluxe&Arty

Have you seen how we went back to winter temperatures in Paris ? so if you feel cold and start to shiver,  the perfect remedy is a grogg ! My favorite : the one at the Vendôme Bar, Ritz Hotel.

Look at the pictures : a very rich grogg with fantastic perfumed vanilla, lemon and oranges slices dotted with cloves, star anise, mint leaves, rhum of course and sugar cane.

Enjoy your Deluxe&Arty grogg without waiting !

Hugo&Victor : high patisserie in Paris !

Posted in luxury, news, shops on February 7, 2011 by ParisDeluxe&Arty

You know I’m a sweet teeth and I’ve discovered recently in my district  a new fantastic patisserie called “Hugo&Victor”(7 rue Gomboust 75001). It looks like a jewellery boutique but you can eat all the creations ! The chef, Hugues Pouget, had worked formely  for famous french chef Guy Savoy-so you can figure out the high level you find there. With Sylvain Blanc, his friend,  they decided to open a new kind of shop : the idea was to propose patisserie you have in a gastronomic restaurant as take away. And that’s a success : they opened one year ago the first shop in 7th district  and last december they open the one I’m talking about in the first district. They have  also now a corner in big department store Printemps.

The chef is working with traditional tastes like chocolate, vanilla and caramel on one hand-revisiting traditional “eclairs” , “choux” and chocolate tarts for example-  and more innovative or excentric tastes on the other hand, such as combawa (in green below)slightly tangy with a delicate lemongrass perfume,  or lychee (the best dessert I’ve ever eaten, definitly my favorite !)…

I do recommend also the little “financiers” (especially the one with cherries) elected the best in Paris by ‘Le Figaro”-a famous french newspaper-and I do confirm !

And if you want an original gift : their chocolate boxes look like a book …very ParisDeluxe&Arty indeed !

Caspita jewellery collection launching at Le Meurice Palace hotel , Paris

Posted in event, hotel, luxury, Paris on January 25, 2011 by ParisDeluxe&Arty

Last saturday Edwart and me were invited  by the sparkling creator of Caspita, Arlène Bonnant for the launching of her first high jewellery collection inspired by Art and Spirituality at le Meurice hotel, our favorite palace hotel in Paris and almost second  home !

Arlène is an art expert  specialised in contemporary art who had worked for famous auction houses and she decided to create fabulous and mesmerizing high jewellery recently-which is such a challenge today-but as an inspired artist she immediatly found a unique and very personal touch. First, the name : Caspita , with a reverted A. In italian, an expression which is the sign of wonderment. Then the first collection is based on Chakras ! I love the idea to stimulate my chakras through diamonds and gold ! here is some pictures showing Arlène  and her friend Abir Oreibi (Managing director Label.ch) wearing her creations,  and the display of other marvels from her collection in Le Meurice lounge. You can find her creations at Le Meurice hotel in Paris or in London (Kabiri boutique). Please visit her web site : http://www.caspita.ch

Enjoy a magical Christmas at the RITZ, Paris

Posted in hotels and restaurants, luxury, Paris on December 18, 2010 by ParisDeluxe&Arty

The Ritz is more than a palace hotel, it’s a legend since 1898, it’s well known- with Hemingway and  Chanel spirits haunting the place-  that’s why Christmas at the RITZ is sooo magical !  Just remember “Everyone says I love you” by Woody Allen !

I’m a member of the Ritz Health Club for few years now and I do love it- I will write a post of course about  it soon- so I enjoyed the jacuzzi and swimming pool today during this cold afternoon,  and when I went out I could see the snow flakes falling in the courtyard…

There was a little girl playing in the lobby, singing and turning around so happy among the teddy bears  and deers :

I do recommend the Christmas tea by the fire place, a taste of magical in Paris, on Vendôme square, commisioned by the sun king himself at the end of the 17th century . Then I went out and came back to share with you this magical moment…

a magical trip to Bath at the Royal Crescent, relais chateau

Posted in art and culture, Bath, hotels and restaurants, luxury, travels on December 9, 2010 by ParisDeluxe&Arty

Hi ! I just came back yesterday from a marvellous trip my fiancé offered me for my birthday : we spent 4 days in Bath, near London. We stay in a fantastic place I do recomend for a honeymoon or celebration with a lover : The Royal Crescent, located in the famous crescent built by John Wood-we had John Wood suite by the way,a lovely bedchamber with a fire place and the view on the countryside. The hotel staff was very nice, professional and efficient, ask for Charlotte, she’s perfect !

On the morning of 7th when we woke up, it had snowed a little bit during the night and with the frost, all the countryside was recovered with a fine layer of white, better than a christams set !

You know my taste for spa and the one in the hotel is Georgian style, dark, made of stone and wood, it looks like you’re swimming in a chapel ! I looove it ! Perfect after an afternoon walk where we dicovered the famous roman bath vestiges and the abbey where college boys and girls rehearsed Chritsmas songs for the midnight mass. Magical, I told you !

The restaurant is delicious and the chef deserves one star at Michelin guide, hope he’ll have it soon. I can say we had the best fish and chips !! we ordered room service the last night, we wanted to stay quiet by the fire, looking at “Holidays” movie with Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn. I enjoyed a glass of Pomerol and a plate of english cheeses, my favorite is the Stilton.

The restaurant has a very good french somelier, don’t hesitate to ask his advice, he’s an expert.

The dinner for my birthday was excellent : quails terrine, creamy scallops as I never tasted, lambs, seabass, and a very special chocolate cake made for me , I’m was so happy ! A fairy tale …

Best japonese tea in Paris : JUGETSUDO, 95 rue de Seine 75006

Posted in art and culture, luxury, Paris, places, shopping on November 30, 2010 by ParisDeluxe&Arty

Do you remember Maki ? I met her during Murakami ‘s VIP party at Versailles castle ! I’ve seen her first in front of the giant golden Buddha in the gardens,  dressed with a beautiful traditional kimono then I met her during the cockatil and she told me she was the manager of a tea shop called “Jugetsudo” in Saint Germain des Près. Of course I’ve been there and was so warmly received and I tasted the best sake of my life with a delicious salted cake with algae I do recommend you !

She organises tea ceremony, exhibitions, events …you can buy excellent green teas , my favorite is “Genmaicha with Matcha”.

I also love the ceramics  you can buy in the shop, great minimalist and refined design with subtle glazes. Jugetudo is definitly the place in Paris for  japonese art and lifestyle lovers.

Royal Monceau 5 stars hotel in Paris /Pierre Hermé

Posted in contemporary art, hotels and restaurants, luxury on November 4, 2010 by ParisDeluxe&Arty

I had the pleasure to guide last week Pierre Hermé  and his companion Barbara Rhil (will write a post about her shop in Paris later…). They are very charming and interesting  people.

By the way, Pierre Hermé opened a new shop 39, avenue de l’Opéra devoted to macaroons and chocolate only and he signs all the pastries and desserts in new Royal Monceau, so let’s talk about it !

If you want the ultimate top luxury experience in Paris, close to Champs-Elysées, in a contemporary and very refined atmosphere, Royal Monceau is made for you. I had the pleasure to visit it with Alexandre, the sales manager,   just before  it opened to the public mid-september, after 2 years work and a drastic transformation by acclaimed french designer Philippe Stark.

5 stars devoted to pleasure of the senses :

touch and admire the noble material all around you : natural leather only in order to obtain a unique patina with time,

precious wood that makes you feel like emboarding on a chic cruise in the 30’s with amazing vintage cristal chandelier.

Pierre Hermé for pastry chef  (I think he’s an artist and a genius !) and extraordinary italian restaurant alreay celebrated by very demanding parisian gastronomic critics !

You’ll find also a contemporary art gallery, with Basquiat drawings exhibition right now, plus an art bookstore specialised in multiples and  books by artists with vintage, and an Art concierge ready to help you in exploring Paris art life.

The hotel commisionned artist special works, like a painted ceiling in the restaurant by Stéphane Calais, a surrealist over-scale tea-pot by Joana Vasconcelos in the open courtyard, meanwhile a pack of deers carved in wood by a russian artist surprise you in the stairs !

Last but not least : there is a nice acoustic guitar in each room ! and, unique in Europe :  a private movie theatre, for 200 people, with the ultimate technology and comfort,  is located discretly inside the hotel ! !

The whole place just blew my mind ! Totally ParisDeluxe&Arty !

Paris Gourmet tour

Posted in luxury, restaurants, shops on October 6, 2010 by ParisDeluxe&Arty

I loooove my job ! Such a treat today ! I was working for an agency and I gave a “gourmet tour ” for people from the Ritz hotel : we started with a wine and cheese tasting at “Pharamond”, a very parisian and very good bistrot in Les Halles district, classified national heritage : 1900 style, with colored tiles on the wall and private lounges upstairs for private lunches or diner (from 2 to 12). Oh my god ! we tasted a Gevrey-Chambertin premier cru from 2007 !! I  really enjoy Burgondy wine, more than Bordeaux. Black cherry colour and taste, perfect with Saint Nectaire cheese.

SalonThen we walked in lovely Montorgueil street to admire famous pastry shop “Storher” since 1730. Stohrer was the pastry chef of Kingof Poland whose daughter married king Louis XV, so he settled down in Versailles and opened a shop n Paris in 1730. He’s the one who created famous “Baba” (because when he created his cake the king was reading the famous tales of 1001 nights) !  Originally  it was a dry brioche from Poland he enriched with “crème patissiere” and Malaga wine. Today is a spongy brioche with a lot of rhum and whipped cream. Other specialty : the “well of love”, a sweet mix of sugar, butter and “pâte feuilletée”, absolutly delicious !

Then we had a meeting at Marcolini’s boutique near Opera house. Pierre Marcolini is a belgium  chocolate maker (from italian roots) who travels himself to Bresil, Mexico, Peru ….to select the best cocoa beams he transforms in his own workshops into exceptional chocolate. The shops in Belgium are famous, he’s got also shops in Japon too and 2 in Paris. It’s luxury chocolate, not industrial (please forget Godiva or Leonidas)  with elegant minimalist design for boxes and boutiques. Lanvin fashion house selected him  for the fashion defile to offer to VIPs dark truffles chocolate !!

It’s so funny, because after that wonderful afternoon, I was working at Grand Palais for Monet exhibition (I have to write on  it ) and I arrived so excited and in a great mood, full of energy ; my colleagues asked me what’s happened !! haha ! exceptional wine and dark chocolate is the secret  !!

No diner for me tonight !

Antique Art Biennale – Grand Palais

Posted in Art, art gallery, luxury, Paris on September 19, 2010 by ParisDeluxe&Arty

Hurry up ! you still have time ,until wednesday 22nd, to rush and admire under the gorgeous glass roof of Grand Palais the 25th “Biennale des Antiquaires”, gathering the most outstanding antique art dealers from Europe and America.

A world of elegance, good taste, selected works… very ParisDeluxe in one word !

I had a smoothie and Potel and Chabot finger tips sandwiches next to Marc Jacobs, just perfect in a pleated black skirt with his impressive tatoos and a green Kelly bag ; I saw also very classy Monsieur Dominique de Villepin-the most stylished and arty french politician- then saw Madame Chirac followed by Sumette- a lovely whity fluffy little thing (it is said tht Mr Jacques Chirac is just crazy about it !).

Impossible to name everybody, just few names I really like :

Galerie Michel Giraud (Paris) for decorative arts , early 20th century : especially ceramics, glass vases, enamels (precious little boxes and a rare enamel painting after Gustave Moreau), plus figures made in hard stone by french artists, like an incredible frog carved in an amethyst block !

Galerie Huguette Béres (Paris) : displayed in a  white  delicate atmosphere perfumed with Lilly,  a sweet little Bonnard ( a girl in red), a delicious Tanguy, and an adorable little Picasso drawing : 2 birds in love…

Axel Vervoordt (Belgium): I always liked his science to mix antique and contemporary in a studiolo atmosphere where you feel immediatly at home. It’s amazing how an antique torso which welcomes you in a drawing-room filled with contemporary works can transfigure the perception !

Talking about antique, you have to go absolutly on the mezzanine for “Tremplin”, a space offered to young art dealers where they selected just one piece. The rare antique nymph (3rd bc) from Antoine Tarantino gallery (Paris) is magnified by a clever game of moving light  that reaveals the beauty of the pleats and underlines the slight contraposto.

Neo-classicism will remain, according to me, the absolute reference for style, elegance and perfection, that’s why Alexis Bordes gallery (Paris) always offers the best selection.

Chanel high jewellery (Paris): based on the unique high jewellery collection Chanel made in 1932 with diamonds and platinum only, the exquisite “Feather broach” especially re-edited for the Biennale. My eyes still sparkle tonight after seeing their fabulous creations !

So don’t miss the event and there is a delicious gourmet corner to please the most choosy ones !
